International Cat Day

As much as it’s nice to travel, to see the world, meet new people, try new things and to eat new food, it’s also always nice to come home.

My experience of coming home is enriched by the fact that I know my cat, Elwood, will be there waiting for me.

Today is International Cat Day and so, I’m taking a moment away from the world outside to pay tribute to the main reason that my house is a home.

Thanks Elwood, for being there, for being my friend, for listening patiently as I read every essay and blog entry and thesis draft to you out loud and for always letting me pick what we watch on television. Despite your annoying habits – singing at 4am, mewling, shedding and shredding my couch, you’ve taught me some valuable life lessons and, in many ways, meeting you saved my life.
